Latin for beginners
Robert Hodge
Those who are completely new to Latin and those who have a little knowledge from schooldays are welcome, as are those who can happily translate ‘et sedit super tapete cattus’ or even the misquote ‘magna est veritas et praevalebit’. Sessions will be held on the first and third Mondays of each month, in the afternoon. The group will use a combination of a Latin primer (which members will have to buy) and material that will be provided. Grammar will rear its ugly head, but the group will focus on translation and reading Latin texts. To help keep everything in context there will be discussion about the Ancient World, classical Latin authors and occasional visits to read inscriptions and get a taste of life in Roman Britain.
